We developed a web-based examination platform for the Rakovski National Defense College, part of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense. The system allows administrators to conduct English language proficiency exams based on the NATO STANAG 6001 standard.

The platform enables secure online testing and automated evaluation while supporting complex exam structures required for standardized language assessment.

Overview

The system provides a centralized environment for organizing, scheduling, and conducting language proficiency exams.

Administrators can manage question banks, schedule examination sessions, and assign exams to participants. Candidates can then access their assigned tests through a web browser and complete the exam entirely online.

The platform was designed to be easy to use for both administrators and exam participants, even for users with minimal technical experience.

Testing Capabilities

The system evaluates three language skills:

  • Reading
  • Listening
  • Writing

Reading and listening sections are automatically evaluated by the system, while writing responses are reviewed and scored by instructors or administrators.

Adaptive Testing Algorithms

The platform supports two automated testing models:

Computer-Assisted Testing

Participants begin with lower-level questions and progressively receive more difficult questions as the exam advances.

Adaptive Testing

The adaptive testing algorithm begins with mid-level questions and dynamically adjusts question difficulty based on the participant's performance.

This approach provides a more accurate assessment of language proficiency while optimizing exam duration.
